ISLAMABAD: The European Union has strongly responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat of imposing a 50% tariff on EU imports, urging for a trade approach grounded in mutual respect rather than intimidation.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The statement comes as tensions between Washington and Brussels escalate over what Trump describes as an “imbalanced” trading relationship.<\/p>\n

EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic stressed that the 27-member bloc remains committed to constructive negotiations aimed at reaching a fair deal. \u201cEU-US trade is vital and must be based on cooperation.<\/p>\n

We are fully engaged in securing a deal that benefits both sides,\u201d he said, following discussions with senior U.S. trade officials.<\/p>\n

European Leaders Sound Alarm<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Leaders from key EU nations, including Ireland, France, Germany, and the Netherlands, have voiced serious concerns about the proposed tariffs.<\/p>\n

Irish Prime Minister Miche\u00e1l Martin urged that diplomacy is the only sustainable solution.<\/p>\n

France\u2019s Foreign Minister Laurent Saint-Martin echoed that call, saying the EU is ready to de-escalate but will defend its interests if necessary.<\/p>\n

Germany and the Netherlands also supported the EU’s unified stance, warning that the economic consequences of tariff hikes could be severe for both American and European industries.<\/p>\n

Economic Uncertainty and Market Impact<\/strong><\/h2>\n

President Trump\u2019s frustration with ongoing talks led to renewed threats targeting not only general EU exports but also specific industries, including automotive and technology.<\/p>\n

He warned companies like Apple that products not made in the U.S. could face steep duties.<\/p>\n

Financial markets quickly reacted. Major indices in both Europe and the U.S. slipped, with Germany\u2019s DAX and France\u2019s CAC 40 falling over 1.5%, while the S&P 500 dropped nearly 0.7%.<\/p>\n
