ISLAMABAD:<\/strong> Nepali Sherpa guide Kami Rita has made history by scaling Mount Everest for the 31st time, breaking his own record set last year.<\/p>\n

The 55-year-old climber reached the summit of the world\u2019s highest peak, standing at 8,849 meters (29,032 feet), while leading a 22-member Indian Army team via the traditional southeast ridge route, officials confirmed.<\/p>\n

Legendary Climber\u2019s Journey and Current Expedition<\/h2>\n

Kami Rita, known simply by his first name, first conquered Everest in 1994.<\/p>\n

Since then, he has summited nearly every year except during the three years when climbing was banned due to safety and administrative reasons.<\/p>\n

Accompanying the team were 27 other Sherpas, highlighting the vital role these guides play in mountaineering expeditions.<\/p>\n

According to Pasang Phurba, director of Seven Summit Treks, Kami Rita is now descending to lower camps after his successful climb.<\/p>\n

Mount Everest has been climbed by over 8,000 people since its first ascent by Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay in 1953. Among Sherpas, Pasang Dawa holds the second-most climbs with 29 summits.<\/p>\n

In contrast, British climber Kenton Cool leads non-Sherpa climbers with 19 ascents, followed by Americans Dave Hahn and Garrett Madison, each with 15.<\/p>\n

Importance of Mountaineering for Nepal and Safety Concerns<\/h2>\n

Nepal, one of the world\u2019s poorest nations, relies heavily on mountaineering and trekking tourism as a critical source of foreign revenue. Sherpas like Kami Rita earn essential income guiding foreign climbers on Everest and other Himalayan peaks.<\/p>\n

This season alone, authorities issued 468 climbing permits, with over 300 climbers and Sherpas reaching the summit so far.
