ISLAMABAD: South Africa captain Temba Bavuma is determined to end his team\u2019s long-standing trophy drought as they prepare to face defending champions Australia in the World Test Championship final next week.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Proteas have struggled in knockout tournaments, winning only one ICC trophy since 1998, with several heart-breaking near-misses along the way.<\/p>\n

In contrast, Australia boasts a stellar record in global cricket events, including six ODI World Cup titles and multiple Champions and T20 World Cup wins.<\/p>\n

Bavuma, however, insists South Africa will not be intimidated by their rivals.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor us, it is about being confident in our ability,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe respect Australia, but this is a 50-50 contest in our eyes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Overcoming Past Heartaches<\/h3>\n

South Africa\u2019s history in major tournaments has been marked by painful exits, including unlucky rain rules and dramatic run-outs in World Cup knockouts.<\/p>\n

Their only recent major final appearance came in last year\u2019s T20 World Cup, where they narrowly lost to India despite strong performances.<\/p>\n

Test cricket remains South Africa\u2019s stronghold, having once held the ICC Test Mace and dominated rankings under former captain Graeme Smith.<\/p>\n

Bavuma is the last player from that golden era still leading the side.<\/p>\n

He praised coach Shukri Conrad for instilling a strong team spirit and focused mindset.<\/p>\n

Conrad has worked closely with rugby coach Rassie Erasmus, who has led the Springboks to multiple Rugby World Cup titles.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t boast legendary names now, but what we\u2019ve achieved is a tribute to our coach,\u201d said Bavuma.<\/p>\n

Aiming for Glory with Strong Unity<\/h3>\n

Conrad highlighted the importance of pride in representing South Africa.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlaying for the Proteas has got to be the biggest thing for our players,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The team hopes to channel the mental toughness of their rugby counterparts to finally capture the elusive World Test Championship trophy.<\/p>\n
