ISLAMABAD: Egyptian authorities have detained more than 200 international activists in Cairo ahead of a planned Global March to Gaza.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The activists had gathered in Egypt to join a peaceful march aimed at breaking the Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip and delivering humanitarian aid.<\/p>\n

Most of the detained individuals were stopped at Cairo International Airport or were questioned at hotels across the city.<\/p>\n

Many of them came from countries including the United States, Australia, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Morocco, and Algeria.<\/p>\n

Organisers say police, some in plain clothes, entered hotels on Wednesday with prepared lists of names.<\/p>\n

They questioned activists, confiscated personal items like mobile phones, and in some cases made arrests.<\/p>\n

Some were released after questioning, while others were deported without any clear explanation.<\/p>\n

International Outcry Over Detentions<\/h3>\n

According to the march\u2019s spokesperson, Saif Abukeshek, the detentions came as a shock to many.<\/p>\n

He reported that 20 French nationals were detained at Cairo airport for over 18 hours, and several groups, including those from Germany and Greece, were held despite having proper documents.<\/p>\n

Footage from inside the airport showed activists crammed into holding rooms with their luggage.<\/p>\n

One German participant reported calling her embassy for help while being held in a room with dozens of others.<\/p>\n

The Greek delegation also confirmed that several of their citizens were held despite following all legal procedures.<\/p>\n

March Plans Continue Despite Setbacks<\/h3>\n

The Global March to Gaza, in coordination with another convoy named Soumoud<\/em>, had planned to travel to Rafah via El-Arish in the Sinai Peninsula.<\/p>\n

Organisers say over 4,000 activists from more than 40 countries are participating in the effort.<\/p>\n

Despite the detentions, Abukeshek confirmed that the march would go ahead as planned.<\/p>\n

Israel has warned Egypt to prevent protesters from reaching the Gaza border, citing security risks to its soldiers.<\/p>\n

In response, Egypt\u2019s foreign ministry emphasized that any such delegations must follow official approval procedures.<\/p>\n
