{"id":3662,"date":"2025-06-20T17:59:28","date_gmt":"2025-06-20T12:59:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/youdigital.pk\/en\/?p=3662"},"modified":"2025-06-20T14:46:33","modified_gmt":"2025-06-20T09:46:33","slug":"supreme-courts-constitutional-bench-term-extended-till-november-30","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/youdigital.pk\/en\/2025\/06\/20\/supreme-courts-constitutional-bench-term-extended-till-november-30","title":{"rendered":"Supreme Court&#8217;s Constitutional Bench Term Extended Till November 30"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><strong>ISLAMABAD:\u00a0The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has extended the tenure of the Supreme Court\u2019s Constitutional Bench until November 30, 2025, following a majority vote during its meeting on Thursday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">Originally formed under the 26th Amendment on November 5, 2024, the bench\u2019s term was initially set for 60 days but had previously been extended for six months in December.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Expanded Bench to Continue Critical Work<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">The Constitutional Bench, which was expanded to 13 judges in February, will retain its current composition to address pending constitutional matters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">The JCP also approved changes in the Sindh High Court\u2019s Constitutional Bench, nominating Justices Adnan Iqbal Chaudhry and Jaffar Raza while replacing Justices Agha Faisal and Sana Akram Minhas.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>New Committee for Judicial Performance Evaluation<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">Chief Justice Yahya Afridi formed a broad-based committee to draft rules for the annual performance evaluation of high court judges, as mandated under\u00a0Article 175A(20)\u00a0of the Constitution.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">The committee includes representatives from the judiciary, parliament, executive, and legal fraternity, ensuring a comprehensive review mechanism.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\">The JCP will reconvene next month to deliberate on the appointment of chief justices for the Islamabad, Sindh, Peshawar, and Balochistan High Courts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD:\u00a0The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has extended the tenure of the Supreme Court\u2019s Constitutional Bench until November 30, 2025, following a majority vote during its meeting on Thursday.
