{"id":3831,"date":"2025-06-22T13:15:53","date_gmt":"2025-06-22T08:15:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/youdigital.pk\/en\/?p=3831"},"modified":"2025-06-22T13:15:53","modified_gmt":"2025-06-22T08:15:53","slug":"fao-predicts-extended-monsoon-along-indo-pak-border","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/youdigital.pk\/en\/2025\/06\/22\/fao-predicts-extended-monsoon-along-indo-pak-border","title":{"rendered":"FAO Predicts Extended Monsoon Along Indo-Pak Border"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"121\" data-end=\"325\"><strong>ISLAMABAD: The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has forecast a prolonged and intensified monsoon season in the India-Pakistan border regions, starting from late June and continuing through October.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"327\" data-end=\"504\">According to the FAO\u2019s recent report, a strong pre-monsoon system will likely emerge in late June, followed by above-normal rainfall in key areas along the Indo-Pakistan border.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"506\" data-end=\"630\">The monsoon is expected to persist into early July with near-normal rainfall patterns dominating the remainder of the month.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"632\" data-end=\"821\">From July to September, unusually high rainfall is anticipated in the desert areas of both eastern Pakistan and India, which could have significant ecological and agricultural implications.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"823\" data-end=\"936\">The monsoon is forecast to remain active into October before easing off in November, which is expected to be dry.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"938\" data-end=\"1018\">Rainfall is likely to return in December with the onset of winter precipitation.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1020\" data-end=\"1061\">Locust Breeding Conditions May Emerge<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1063\" data-end=\"1197\">The FAO warns that the early and abundant monsoon rains may create conditions conducive to the small-scale breeding of desert locusts.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1199\" data-end=\"1307\">This activity is expected in eastern Pakistan and Rajasthan, India, particularly between July and September.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1309\" data-end=\"1457\">However, locust breeding is projected to decline once the monsoon retreats in November, reducing the threat to agriculture during the winter season.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1459\" data-end=\"1513\">PMD Projects Mixed Rainfall Outlook Across Regions<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1515\" data-end=\"1641\">The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has also forecast normal to above-normal monsoon rainfall from July to September.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1643\" data-end=\"1752\">While the Indian Ocean Dipole remains in a neutral phase, it is expected to turn negative during this period.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1754\" data-end=\"1827\">Meanwhile, the El Ni\u00f1o Southern Oscillation is predicted to stay neutral.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1829\" data-end=\"1897\">Most of the rainfall is expected in northeastern Punjab and Kashmir.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1899\" data-end=\"2020\">Regions such as northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan may experience normal to slightly below-normal rainfall.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2022\" data-end=\"2128\">Above-normal rainfall is likely in northern Punjab, southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and parts of Balochistan.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2130\" data-end=\"2241\">These trends could support agriculture in some areas while raising concerns about potential flooding in others.Monsoon, Rainfall, Forecast<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has forecast a prolonged and intensified monsoon season in the India-Pakistan border regions, starting from late June and continuing through October.
