ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday applauded his economic team for crafting the federal budget 2025-26 and directed strict law and order arrangements across the country during the holy month of Muharram, beginning Friday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Presiding over a federal cabinet meeting, PM Shehbaz thanked Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and his team for their \u201ctireless efforts\u201d in preparing the new fiscal budget.<\/p>\n

He also appreciated the support of the federal cabinet and allied political parties in finalising the finance bill, which was approved with several amendments to existing laws.<\/p>\n

Call for Peace and Stability<\/h3>\n

The prime minister stressed the importance of maintaining peace during Muharram.<\/p>\n

He instructed the interior ministry to coordinate with provincial governments, as well as administrations in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, to ensure secure processions and gatherings.<\/p>\n

The meeting began with prayers for Major Moeez Abbas Shah, who was martyred during an anti-terror operation in South Waziristan.<\/p>\n

Addressing regional matters, PM Shehbaz welcomed the ceasefire between Iran and Israel, describing it as a vital step to avoid further escalation.<\/p>\n

He credited countries like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan for their diplomatic efforts.<\/p>\n

He noted that Iran acknowledged Pakistan\u2019s role\u2014thanking its people, military, and leadership for promoting peace.<\/p>\n

He condemned the recent Iranian attack on Qatar, reiterating Pakistan\u2019s close ties with the Gulf nation.<\/p>\n

Economic and Foreign Affairs Updates<\/h3>\n

PM Shehbaz expressed satisfaction over fiscal strategies and informed the cabinet about recent decisions made by the National Security Committee.<\/p>\n

A new committee was also formed to provide recommendations on gas production and supply, which will be shared with the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n

The federal cabinet approved transferring petroleum levy powers to the petroleum ministry.<\/p>\n

Phone Call with US Secretary of State<\/h3>\n

The prime minister also held a phone conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.<\/p>\n

He praised US President Donald Trump\u2019s leadership in resolving the Iran-Israel conflict and thanked Rubio for America\u2019s role in easing Pakistan-India tensions.<\/p>\n
