ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has announced the removal of the PTV fee from electricity bills, marking a consumer-friendly decision aimed at protecting citizens’ rights.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Speaking at the launch ceremony of the “My Meter, My Reading” app, he stated that empowering users and promoting institutional reforms remain a top priority.<\/p>\n

He praised the initiative as a milestone in governance, highlighting its potential to make the billing process transparent and give control back to users.<\/p>\n

He emphasized that tackling electricity theft and reducing tariffs are among the government\u2019s key priorities.<\/p>\n

\n

Major Reform for Power Sector Users<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Prime Minister called the app part of a series of revolutionary reforms by the Ministry of Energy under the leadership of Minister Awais Leghari.<\/p>\n

He said that significant improvements have been made in the power sector, with more still to come.<\/p>\n

Reforms include restructuring DISCOS boards and taking firm action against corrupt elements.<\/p>\n

He added that talks with IPPs have been fruitful and conducted transparently.
The government also negotiated with banks to reduce interest rates on circular debt, achieving promising results.
Lower oil prices in global markets are being used to reduce electricity tariffs locally.<\/p>\n

Solar Expansion and App Accessibility Across Pakistan<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Prime Minister acknowledged Pakistan\u2019s fast progress in solarization and stressed the need to promote it as the cheapest energy source.<\/p>\n

He instructed that the Power App be introduced from Karachi to Peshawar in five languages to benefit all regions and promote national harmony.<\/p>\n

He assured that rebasing of tariffs will not burden the public and that the government is committed to shielding citizens from price hikes.<\/p>\n

Energy Minister Sardar Awais Leghari also spoke at the event, stating that user empowerment and transparency were key goals.<\/p>\n
