{"id":4627,"date":"2025-06-30T09:00:38","date_gmt":"2025-06-30T04:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/youdigital.pk\/en\/?p=4627"},"modified":"2025-06-30T11:49:51","modified_gmt":"2025-06-30T06:49:51","slug":"govt-moves-to-enforce-uniform-electricity-tariff-across-pakistan-from-july-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/youdigital.pk\/en\/2025\/06\/30\/govt-moves-to-enforce-uniform-electricity-tariff-across-pakistan-from-july-1","title":{"rendered":"Govt Moves to Enforce Uniform Electricity Tariff Across Pakistan from July 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"218\" data-end=\"237\"><strong>ISLAMABAD: The federal government has officially requested the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to implement a uniform electricity tariff nationwide, including Karachi, effective July 1, 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"471\" data-end=\"788\">The move is in line with the National Electricity Policy 2021, which promotes tariff standardization while upholding socio-economic objectives.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"471\" data-end=\"788\">The request includes reduced power subsidies for FY 2025-26, totaling Rs. 1.036 trillion, a 13% cut from the previous year\u2019s Rs. 1.190 trillion allocation.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"795\" data-end=\"827\">New Tariff Set at Rs. 34\/kWh<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"829\" data-end=\"1125\">Under the revised structure, the national average electricity tariff has been fixed at Rs. 34 per kWh, compared to Rs. 35.50 per kWh in FY 2024\u201325.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"829\" data-end=\"1125\">The aim is to rationalize consumer costs and streamline regional disparities in billing, rather than generate federal revenue.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1127\" data-end=\"1364\">According to the government&#8217;s motion, NEPRA has been asked to issue a consolidated and uniform tariff, including quarterly adjustments, for all state-owned Distribution Companies (Discos) under Section 31(4) of the NEPRA Act.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1371\" data-end=\"1413\">Uniformity for K-Electric Also Planned<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1415\" data-end=\"1703\">The government has filed separate motions for Discos and K-Electric, proposing that uniform end-user tariffs continue for KE customers both before and after privatization.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1415\" data-end=\"1703\">This aligns with the broader push for tariff harmonization across consumer categories and regions.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1705\" data-end=\"1912\">NEPRA has scheduled a public hearing on July 1, 2025, to deliberate on the proposal.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1705\" data-end=\"1912\">If approved, this step could mark a significant shift in how power pricing is managed and perceived across Pakistan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: The federal government has officially requested the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to implement a uniform electricity tariff nationwide, including Karachi, effective July 1, 2025.
