Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan has warmly welcomed the recent supplemental decision by the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in The Hague concerning the Indus Waters Treaty, urging India to ensure full and immediate compliance with the treaty.<\/p>\n
In a statement issued by the Foreign Office, it was noted that the tribunal firmly upheld its jurisdiction and rejected India\u2019s unilateral attempt to suspend the treaty. This ruling strengthens Pakistan\u2019s position that the Indus Waters Treaty remains fully valid and operational, and that India has no legal grounds to suspend it unilaterally.<\/p>\n
The statement further mentioned that Pakistan has presented a strong case in court regarding the Kishenganga and Ratle hydroelectric projects, which the tribunal has acknowledged. This supplemental award reinforces the treaty\u2019s sustainability and stability under international law.<\/p>\n
It is worth recalling that following an attack in April 2025 in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, India suspended the treaty without solid evidence, accusing Pakistan\u2014a claim Islamabad denies. Pakistan condemned this suspension as illegal and aggressive and has sought recourse through international legal channels under the Vienna Convention, with proceedings still underway.<\/p>\n
