Karachi :The Sindh government is spearheading a new era in education by allocating a record-breaking Rs 42 billion for universities and launching the second phase of its flagship People\u2019s IT Program (PITP) to equip young people with modern digital skills.<\/p>\n
According to Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, PITP has evolved into a benchmark digital education initiative aimed at integrating Sindh\u2019s youth into the global digital economy. In the program\u2019s initial phase, over 13,500 students received training in key IT domains. Of these, 300 top achievers were awarded Google Chromebooks and laptops, following a transparent merit-based selection process.<\/p>\n
The second phase of PITP has now been rolled out with a dedicated budget of Rs 1.4 billion, aiming to train 35,000 more students in 12 in-demand IT fields, preparing them for both local and global job markets.<\/p>\n
Minister Memon also announced that Rs 42 billion has been set aside for public universities in the 2025\u201326 budget, marking the highest education allocation among all provinces in Pakistan.<\/p>\n
He highlighted major infrastructure achievements, including the newly constructed Food Engineering Department building at NED University (costing Rs 96.481 million) and the completed International Boys Hostel (costing Rs 67.11 million), which is now operational for students.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese investments reflect the government\u2019s commitment to building a skilled, tech-savvy youth and strengthening higher education infrastructure,\u201d Memon said. \u201cOur goal is not only to educate but also to prepare the next generation for meaningful contributions to Pakistan\u2019s economy.\u201d<\/p>\n
