He is spearheading a groundbreaking research initiative aimed at producing\u00a0<strong data-start=\"642\" data-end=\"682\">pharmaceutical-grade sodium chloride<\/strong>\u00a0(common salt) from\u00a0<strong data-start=\"702\" data-end=\"731\">locally sourced rock salt<\/strong>\u00a0in Pakistan.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"746\" data-end=\"1030\">This innovative project focuses on significantly improving the\u00a0<strong data-start=\"809\" data-end=\"831\">purity and quality<\/strong>\u00a0of sodium chloride to meet the\u00a0<strong data-start=\"863\" data-end=\"886\">stringent standards<\/strong>\u00a0required for\u00a0<strong data-start=\"900\" data-end=\"924\">medical applications<\/strong>, particularly\u00a0<strong data-start=\"939\" data-end=\"958\">kidney dialysis<\/strong>, where only the highest-grade salts can be used safely and effectively.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1032\" data-end=\"1575\">In recognition of its scientific merit and potential impact, the\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1097\" data-end=\"1134\">Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF)<\/strong>\u00a0has recently shortlisted Dr. Ahmad\u2019s project for further evaluation and support. Operating under the\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1236\" data-end=\"1274\">Ministry of Science and Technology<\/strong>, PSF is one of the country\u2019s most prestigious institutions promoting scientific research and technological innovation. In its latest funding cycle, PSF received over\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1441\" data-end=\"1469\">1,800 research proposals<\/strong>\u00a0from across Pakistan, of which only\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1506\" data-end=\"1521\">80 projects<\/strong>\u00a0were selected\u2014Dr. Ahmad\u2019s being among the chosen few.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1577\" data-end=\"1920\">The core objective of this research is to develop a\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1629\" data-end=\"1647\">cost-effective<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1649\" data-end=\"1664\">sustainable<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1670\" data-end=\"1688\">locally viable<\/strong>\u00a0method for producing\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1710\" data-end=\"1741\">high-purity sodium chloride<\/strong>, thereby reducing Pakistan\u2019s reliance on\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1783\" data-end=\"1822\">imported pharmaceutical-grade salts<\/strong>. This would also help\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1845\" data-end=\"1871\">lower production costs<\/strong>\u00a0in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1922\" data-end=\"2351\">By leveraging Pakistan\u2019s\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1947\" data-end=\"1977\">abundant natural resources<\/strong>, particularly\u00a0<strong data-start=\"1992\" data-end=\"2024\">rock salt deposits in Punjab<\/strong>, Dr. Ahmad\u2019s project aims to support the country\u2019s\u00a0<strong data-start=\"2076\" data-end=\"2096\">self-sufficiency<\/strong>\u00a0in critical medical supplies. If successful, the research could not only improve\u00a0<strong data-start=\"2178\" data-end=\"2221\">access to affordable, high-quality salt<\/strong>\u00a0for essential treatments like dialysis but also pave the way for\u00a0<strong data-start=\"2287\" data-end=\"2324\">large-scale commercial production<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong data-start=\"2329\" data-end=\"2350\">potential exports<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2353\" data-end=\"2694\">Dr. Muhammad Ahmad\u2019s selection by the Pakistan Science Foundation is a testament to the\u00a0<strong data-start=\"2441\" data-end=\"2466\">scientific excellence<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong data-start=\"2471\" data-end=\"2493\">national relevance<\/strong>\u00a0of his work.
