Islamabad\/Karachi \u2013 The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a significant reduction in electricity prices for consumers nationwide, issuing a notification that cuts the tariff by Rs. 1.79 per unit.<\/p>\n
This reduction is part of the monthly fuel price adjustment for July 2025 and will apply to all government-owned distribution companies, including K-Electric. Consumers will benefit from this decrease starting with their electricity bills for September 2025.<\/p>\n
According to the notification, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had initially recommended a reduction of Rs. 1.69 per unit for July. However, NEPRA, prioritizing public interest, approved an even larger decrease of Rs. 1.79 per unit.<\/p>\n
This move is expected to provide relief amounting to approximately Rs. 24.5 billion to electricity consumers across the country.<\/p>\n
The government has been striving to standardize electricity tariffs under its unified tariff policy. Both the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) and the federal cabinet had earlier approved the implementation of a uniform fuel charges adjustment mechanism nationwide.<\/p>\n
On August 19, the ECC approved a summary presented by the Power Division, following which NEPRA reviewed the policy guidelines and issued the current decision.<\/p>\n
