{"id":6077,"date":"2025-09-18T17:30:23","date_gmt":"2025-09-18T12:30:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/youdigital.pk\/en\/?p=6077"},"modified":"2025-09-18T17:30:23","modified_gmt":"2025-09-18T12:30:23","slug":"islamabad-high-court-suspends-decision-to-remove-pta-chairman-reinstates-him","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/youdigital.pk\/en\/2025\/09\/18\/islamabad-high-court-suspends-decision-to-remove-pta-chairman-reinstates-him","title":{"rendered":"Islamabad high court suspends decision to remove PTA chairman, reinstates him"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"194\" data-end=\"454\"><strong data-start=\"194\" data-end=\"228\">Islamabad:<\/strong>The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has suspended a previous verdict that ordered the removal of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman, Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman, effectively restoring him to his position.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"456\" data-end=\"662\">A two-member bench comprising <strong data-start=\"486\" data-end=\"518\">Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"523\" data-end=\"551\">Justice Inam Amin Minhas<\/strong> passed the order while hearing an intra-court appeal challenging the earlier decision by Justice Babar Sattar.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"664\" data-end=\"1031\">During the hearing, the PTA Chairman\u2019s counsel, <strong data-start=\"712\" data-end=\"730\">Salman Mansoor<\/strong>, argued that the decision to remove his client went beyond the scope of the original petition and failed to follow due legal process. He stated that the rules governing the chairman&#8217;s appointment were not challenged, nor was the Attorney General served notice, which he claimed was a legal necessity.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1033\" data-end=\"1369\"><strong data-start=\"1033\" data-end=\"1078\">Additional Attorney General Rashid Hafeez<\/strong> also appeared before the court and informed the bench that the selection process for the PTA Chairman had been transparent and merit-based. Out of 64 applicants, 24 were shortlisted, and the final appointment was made following changes in the relevant rules\u2014approved by the federal cabinet.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1371\" data-end=\"1582\">After hearing arguments from both sides, the court suspended Justice Babar Sattar\u2019s verdict and temporarily reinstated Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman to his role as Chairman PTA, pending further proceedings.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1584\" data-end=\"1775\">It is worth noting that a day earlier, <strong data-start=\"1623\" data-end=\"1647\">Justice Babar Sattar<\/strong> had issued a <strong data-start=\"1661\" data-end=\"1681\">99-page judgment<\/strong>, declaring the appointment of the PTA Chairman unlawful and ordering his removal from office.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Islamabad:The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has suspended a previous verdict that ordered the removal of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman, Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman, effectively restoring him to his position.
