The convoy, which embarked from Spain<\/strong> in late August, consisted of approximately 50 vessels carrying over 500 volunteers and activists from upwards of 45 different nations. The mission\u2019s objective was to break the blockade and provide essential relief to the besieged population of Gaza.<\/p>\n

Hamas vehemently condemned the Israeli naval operation, branding it an act of \u201cpiracy and maritime terrorism targeting civilians.\u201d The group urged global defenders of liberty to speak out against what it termed a \u201cdeceptive and aggressive\u201d assault that took place in international waters.<\/p>\n

Hamas further denounced the detention of activists and journalists aboard the flotilla as a gross violation of international laws and human rights standards.<\/p>\n

The Global Sumud Flotilla\u2019s journey began in Spain<\/strong> on August 31 and was joined by participants from Turkey<\/strong>, Greece<\/strong>, France<\/strong>, and Malaysia<\/strong> among others. Israeli forces intercepted the convoy roughly 90 nautical miles from Gaza\u2019s shores, detaining numerous activists and journalists aboard multiple vessels.<\/p>\n
