Beginning <strong data-start=\"303\" data-end=\"324\">December 16, 2025<\/strong>, conversations held with Meta\u2019s <strong data-start=\"357\" data-end=\"373\">AI Assistant<\/strong> will be used to display <strong data-start=\"398\" data-end=\"418\">personalized ads<\/strong> and content recommendations across its platforms.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"470\" data-end=\"832\">This means that if a user chats with the AI assistant about topics like hiking, Meta will interpret that interest and begin showing related <strong data-start=\"610\" data-end=\"643\">ads, posts, Reels, and groups<\/strong> on <strong data-start=\"647\" data-end=\"659\">Facebook<\/strong>. The company explained that this system will work similarly to how liking a page or frequently engaging with specific content currently influences the platform\u2019s algorithm.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"834\" data-end=\"1148\">Meta has assured users that AI chats <strong data-start=\"871\" data-end=\"883\">will not<\/strong> be used to target ads related to <strong data-start=\"917\" data-end=\"939\">sensitive subjects<\/strong> such as <strong data-start=\"948\" data-end=\"987\">religion, politics, health, or race<\/strong>. According to <strong data-start=\"1002\" data-end=\"1020\">Kristie Harris<\/strong>, Meta\u2019s Chief Privacy Officer, user privacy policies will remain in place and be carefully respected throughout the transition.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1150\" data-end=\"1570\">Users will still have the ability to manage and modify their <strong data-start=\"1211\" data-end=\"1229\">ad preferences<\/strong> through their account settings. However, it won\u2019t be possible to <strong data-start=\"1295\" data-end=\"1317\">completely prevent<\/strong> AI chat data from being used for ad targeting. Furthermore, if a user has <strong data-start=\"1392\" data-end=\"1450\">linked their Facebook, Instagram, or WhatsApp accounts<\/strong> via the <strong data-start=\"1459\" data-end=\"1483\">Meta Accounts Center<\/strong>, their AI chat activity on one platform could influence recommendations on the others.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1572\" data-end=\"1698\">It\u2019s important to note that <strong data-start=\"1600\" data-end=\"1627\">encrypted conversations<\/strong> on <strong data-start=\"1631\" data-end=\"1643\">WhatsApp<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1648\" data-end=\"1661\">Messenger<\/strong> are <strong data-start=\"1666\" data-end=\"1673\">not<\/strong> affected by this change.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1700\" data-end=\"1992\">Meta plans to begin <strong data-start=\"1720\" data-end=\"1754\">notifying users from October 7<\/strong>, ahead of the official policy rollout in December.
