The Punjab government has brought good news for Basant enthusiasts, announcing that steps have been initiated to organize a safe and regulated Basant festival. In a meeting held at the Department of Interior, the possibility of holding limited and secure Basant events in designated areas during the spring festival was discussed.<\/p>\n
The meeting was chaired by Punjab Interior Secretary Dr. Ahmed Javed Qazi, who emphasized that the protection of human lives is the government\u2019s top priority. He made it clear that dangerous kite flying will not be permitted under any circumstances.<\/p>\n
It was proposed that safe kite flying be allowed during Basant, but only after obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Deputy Commissioner of the respective district. The property owner of the rooftop or venue granted permission must submit an affidavit accepting responsibility for all safety arrangements.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, a strict ban will be enforced on the use of metallic, glass-coated (tandi), or manja (sharpened) strings. Kite makers, sellers, and suppliers will be required to register with the Deputy Commissioner\u2019s office.
