Islamabad:\u00a0<\/strong>In the Senate session, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar<\/strong> presented the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill<\/strong>, which had previously been approved by the Federal Cabinet<\/strong> under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The draft of the bill proposes the establishment of a Federal Constitutional Court<\/strong>, which will be responsible for adjudicating constitutional disputes and interpreting the constitution. As part of the reforms, certain constitutional powers currently held by the Supreme Court<\/strong> will be transferred to this new court, and the ** suo motu** (self-initiated) powers of the Supreme Court will be abolished.<\/p>\n

The Federal Constitutional Court<\/strong> will have equal representation from the Chief Justice<\/strong> and the four provincial Chief Justices<\/strong>, with a tenure of three years<\/strong>. The court’s decisions will be binding on all other courts in the country.<\/p>\n

The bill has been referred to the relevant Standing Committee<\/strong> for further review and consideration.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
