Punjab continues to battle severe air pollution, with Lahore and surrounding cities grappling with a persistent smog crisis. The Air Quality Index (AQI) has reached hazardous levels, posing serious health risks to the local population.<\/p>\n

In various parts of Lahore, the AQI has alarmingly spiked to critical numbers, signaling an ongoing environmental emergency. Areas such as Ravi Road have an AQI of 302, Lower Mall is at a dangerous 515, Iqbal Town has reached 517, Sanda Road shows 497, FC College has an AQI of 466, and Saddar Cantt is at 437. Furthermore, Faisalabad’s AQI has reached 410, while Multan’s has hit 367, both well beyond the safe threshold for breathable air.<\/p>\n

Environmental experts have raised concerns over the long-term health effects of this pollution and are urging residents to take immediate precautions. The advice includes avoiding unnecessary outdoor activities, using face masks, and limiting time spent outside during the early morning hours, when pollution levels are typically highest.<\/p>\n

The Punjab government has initiated an intensive operation to address the pollution, with teams from the Department of Transport and Mass Transit working around the clock to monitor and fine vehicles that are emitting excessive smoke. In just the first week of November, authorities inspected 4,184 vehicles, of which 877 were found to be emitting harmful pollutants or lacking necessary fitness certifications. As a result, 288 vehicles were impounded, and 671 trucks were penalized for overloading.<\/p>\n

In total, the authorities have imposed fines totaling 8 million rupees, filed 255 FIRs, and arrested 208 drivers for violations. The Department of Environment has assured the public that additional measures will be introduced to curb the smog problem.<\/p>\n

Experts are urging citizens to follow safety protocols and adhere to government advisories to help mitigate the effects of the ongoing air pollution and minimize its impact on public health.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
