Ashgabat :\u00a0<\/strong>Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has appealed to the international community to ensure that Afghanistan meets its global responsibilities and takes decisive action against the militant groups operating within its borders.<\/p>\n

The prime minister made these remarks during his address at an international forum in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, which was held to mark the “International Year of Peace and Trust 2025,” the “International Day of Neutrality,” and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan\u2019s permanent neutrality. Leaders from Russia, T\u00fcrkiye, Iran, and several other countries attended the event.<\/p>\n

Addressing the growing global threat of terrorism, PM Shehbaz called on international powers to take a proactive stance. \u201cIt is critical for the global community to urge the Afghan Taliban regime to uphold its international obligations and take firm action to suppress terrorist groups operating from Afghan territory,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

The prime minister also expressed gratitude toward Qatar, Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and the UAE for their instrumental roles in facilitating a ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Although the ceasefire remains in effect, PM Shehbaz acknowledged that it remains \u201cdelicate\u201d and requires ongoing attention.<\/p>\n

Reaffirming Pakistan\u2019s commitment to peaceful conflict resolution, PM Shehbaz highlighted the country\u2019s long-standing support for the peace process in Gaza. He pointed to the \u201cUN Security Council’s passing of Resolution 2788 earlier this year\u201d as a clear endorsement of Pakistan\u2019s diplomatic approach toward resolving conflicts peacefully.<\/p>\n

The prime minister expressed hope that the ongoing peace initiatives will ultimately help protect the lives of innocent Palestinians, pave the way for a lasting ceasefire, ensure the smooth flow of humanitarian assistance, and aid in the rebuilding of Gaza.<\/p>\n

He reiterated Pakistan\u2019s unwavering support for the \u201cinalienable right to self-defense\u201d for both the Palestinian and Kashmiri people.<\/p>\n

Turning to the issue of long-term peace, the prime minister emphasized its close connection to sustainable development. He referenced the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as a shared global framework for creating a more stable and prosperous future. \u201cEnsuring socio-economic development and the well-being of our citizens remains the top priority for my government,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

PM Shehbaz shared that Pakistan is making significant strides in fostering financial inclusion and empowering women and marginalized groups economically, reflecting the country\u2019s commitment to progressive economic policies.<\/p>\n

On environmental concerns, the prime minister reiterated Pakistan\u2019s commitment to eco-friendly policies and emphasized the country\u2019s role as a \u201cglobal leader in ecosystem restoration.\u201d However, he acknowledged the challenges posed by climate-related disasters and the global economic inequalities that hinder Pakistan’s progress toward sustainable growth.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on the \u201cdevastating consequences\u201d of the recent floods in Pakistan, PM Shehbaz stressed the urgent need for more balanced international support and collaboration, as the country continues to grapple with the aftermath.<\/p>\n

He described climate change, poverty, and inequality as issues that transcend borders and require collective international action based on shared responsibility. He also called for equitable access to advanced technologies, including digital innovations, without any form of discrimination.<\/p>\n

Finally, PM Shehbaz emphasized the importance of investing in connectivity projects that go beyond simple trade routes, urging the international community to view these projects as bridges for fostering dialogue, exchanging ideas, and achieving shared prosperity.<\/p>\n
