Additionally, the program will work to improve stormwater drainage infrastructure and enhance local governments&#8217; ability to provide sustainable services while increasing revenue in 16 secondary cities across the province.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"916\" data-end=\"1099\">According to a statement released by the World Bank, the program will also address solid waste management, ensuring proper disposal and creating cleaner, healthier urban environments.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1101\" data-end=\"1469\"><strong data-start=\"1101\" data-end=\"1397\">\u201cAddressing child stunting is crucial for Pakistan\u2019s future. Through the Punjab Inclusive Cities Program, we are investing in essential services like water, sanitation, and hygiene to break the cycle of malnutrition and disease that holds back so many children from reaching their potential,\u201d<\/strong> said <strong data-start=\"1403\" data-end=\"1426\">Bolormaa Amgaabazar<\/strong>, World Bank Country Director for Pakistan.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1471\" data-end=\"1740\">She noted that the program, in close collaboration with the Punjab Government, marks a significant milestone in modernizing urban infrastructure and strengthening local institutions, ultimately paving the way for healthier communities and fostering national prosperity.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1742\" data-end=\"1959\">The <strong data-start=\"1746\" data-end=\"1754\">PICP<\/strong> is expected to provide improved water, sanitation, hygiene, and drainage services to approximately <strong data-start=\"1854\" data-end=\"1879\">4.5 million residents<\/strong>, while better waste management will benefit an additional <strong data-start=\"1938\" data-end=\"1958\">2 million people<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1961\" data-end=\"2171\">The primary goals of the program include reducing healthcare costs by curbing waterborne diseases, addressing child stunting, and empowering local governments to deliver more effective and sustainable services.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2173\" data-end=\"2547\"><strong data-start=\"2173\" data-end=\"2316\">\u201cThis program combines infrastructure upgrades with capacity-building and revenue growth, ensuring long-term benefits for urban residents,\u201d<\/strong> said <strong data-start=\"2322\" data-end=\"2336\">Amena Raja<\/strong>, Senior Urban Specialist at the World Bank. <strong data-start=\"2381\" data-end=\"2547\">\u201cIt will also help Punjab\u2019s cities become more resilient to floods and droughts, fostering urban growth that is environmentally sustainable and climate-adaptive.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2549\" data-end=\"2936\">Gender inclusion will be a core focus, with the program aiming to promote women in leadership positions, establish gender complaint desks, and provide specialized training to help female employees develop new skills and advance in their careers.
