Islamabad :<\/strong> Shehbaz Sharif<\/span><\/span> on Monday congratulated Hungarian opposition leader P\u00e9ter Magyar<\/span><\/span> after his party secured a major breakthrough in Hungary\u2019s parliamentary elections.<\/p>\n

In a message posted on X<\/span><\/span>, the prime minister extended his best wishes to P\u00e9ter Magyar on his electoral success and expressed hope for his future responsibilities.<\/p>\n

He also reaffirmed that Pakistan attaches great importance to its friendly relations with Hungary<\/span><\/span> and looked forward to further strengthening bilateral cooperation under the new political developments.<\/p>\n

Early projections indicate that Magyar\u2019s Tisza Party<\/span><\/span> has won a parliamentary majority, as vote counting continues following a high turnout election.<\/p>\n

Reports further suggest that long-time Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orb\u00e1n<\/span><\/span>, who has ruled for 16 years, has accepted the election outcome.<\/p>\n

With nearly complete results, the Tisza Party is reported to have secured 138 seats in the 199-member parliament with 53.6 percent of the vote, while Orb\u00e1n\u2019s Fidesz Party<\/span><\/span> won 55 seats with 37.8 percent support.<\/p>\n

Addressing supporters in Budapest, P\u00e9ter Magyar described the result as a historic shift, saying voters had chosen a new direction for the country and promising to focus on unity and reform.<\/p>\n

Observers believe the political change may bring Hungary closer to mainstream European positions and strengthen ties with Western allies, while potentially reducing the influence of Russian President Vladimir Putin<\/span><\/span> within the European Union.<\/p>\n

Analysts also say the outcome could have wider international political implications, including resonance among conservative circles in the United States, where Donald Trump<\/span><\/span> remains a key political figure.<\/p>\n

In the lead-up to the vote, U.S. Vice President JD Vance<\/span><\/span> had visited Hungary and voiced support for Orb\u00e1n.<\/p>\n
