Washington: Diplomatic prospects in the Middle East appear to be improving as Iran has reportedly softened its position toward the United States and conveyed a 14-point proposal through Pakistan, according to The Wall Street Journal<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The report states that Iran is open to holding talks as early as next week in Pakistan, subject to approval from Washington. The possible selection of Pakistan as a venue is being seen as an indication of its increasing diplomatic significance in regional affairs.<\/p>\n

Under the proposed framework, Iran has reportedly relaxed several of its earlier demands, including the condition for an immediate lifting of economic sanctions before any negotiations begin.<\/p>\n

Tehran has now expressed willingness to engage in discussions over its nuclear programme at a later stage, provided the United States agrees to ease sanctions first.<\/p>\n

However, Iran is said to have excluded its missile programme and nuclear activities from the initial round of talks, while leaving the possibility open for future dialogue on these issues.<\/p>\n

The development comes as US President Donald Trump recently signalled in a letter to Congress that tensions with Iran could be easing.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the US House of Representatives is expected to review proposals regarding expanded war-related powers concerning Iran.<\/p>\n
