Islamabad :<\/strong> President Asif Ali Zardari has awarded the Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military), one of the country\u2019s highest military honours, to Commander National Strategic Command (CNSC) General Aamer Raza during a special investiture ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir, other service chiefs, along with senior government and military officials, were present at the ceremony.<\/p>\n

General Aamer Raza has already been decorated with two other military awards, the Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military) and Sitara-e-Basalat (Star of Valour), for his distinguished services.<\/p>\n

He became the country\u2019s first Commander National Strategic Command after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif elevated him from lieutenant general to the rank of four-star general on July 24. Before taking over the newly established strategic command, General Raza was serving as the Pakistan Army\u2019s Chief of General Staff.<\/p>\n

The National Strategic Command was created after the approval of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, which introduced major changes to Article 243 of the Constitution and reshaped the country\u2019s military command structure.<\/p>\n

As part of the constitutional changes, the office of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) was abolished, while the positions of Chief of Defence Forces and Commander National Strategic Command were established.<\/p>\n

The amendment also expanded the constitutional authority of senior military leadership and introduced legal protections for five-star generals.<\/p>\n

Under the revised constitutional framework, the CNSC is appointed by the prime minister on the recommendation of the Chief of Defence Forces. The appointment is made for an initial three-year term, while the prime minister is authorised to determine the terms, conditions and rules governing the office.<\/p>\n

The law further allows the CNSC\u2019s tenure to be extended for another three years on the recommendation of the Chief of Defence Forces.<\/p>\n

It also provides that the appointment, reappointment or extension of the CNSC cannot be challenged in court, effectively placing such decisions beyond judicial review.<\/p>\n

In addition, the constitutional amendment excludes the CNSC from certain provisions of the Pakistan Army Act relating to retirement age, tenure of service and removal from office.<\/p>\n

Despite serving as Commander National Strategic Command, the officer retains the rank of General in the Pakistan Army. Under the new constitutional setup, General Raza will continue to hold the rank while carrying out the responsibilities of the strategic command.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
