Islamabad :<\/strong> Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in the Kyrgyz Republic for a three-day official visit, scheduled from August 31 to September 2<\/strong>, at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Nurgozhoevich Zhaparov.<\/p>\n

The visit is primarily focused on Pakistan\u2019s participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State<\/strong> meeting, while the prime minister is also expected to hold a series of bilateral meetings with leaders attending the gathering.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Shehbaz is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar<\/strong>, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan<\/strong>, Communications Minister Abdul Aleem Khan<\/strong>, Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar<\/strong>, along with other senior government officials.<\/p>\n

During his stay in Bishkek, the prime minister will attend the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting as well as the SCO Plus Summit<\/strong>. Pakistan is scheduled to assume the chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State for the 2026-27 term<\/strong> during the visit.<\/p>\n

The premier will also meet leaders of participating countries on the sidelines of the summit to discuss matters of mutual interest and regional developments.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Shehbaz is further scheduled to attend the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games<\/strong> in Bishkek on August 31.<\/p>\n

Formal discussions between Prime Minister Shehbaz and President Zhaparov are scheduled for September 2<\/strong>. The talks will cover a broad range of bilateral issues and explore avenues for expanding cooperation between the two countries.<\/p>\n

According to the Foreign Office, particular attention will be given to trade and investment, energy, regional connectivity, education, tourism and people-to-people contacts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The two leaders are also expected to exchange views on regional and global developments and discuss cooperation through international and regional forums.<\/p>\n

The Foreign Office described Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan ties as friendly and longstanding, citing their shared historical, cultural and religious connections as well as common interests in promoting peace, connectivity and economic development across Central and South Asia.<\/p>\n

The ministry said the visit would build on recent high-level diplomatic contacts and provide an opportunity to translate political understanding between Islamabad and Bishkek into stronger economic and practical cooperation.<\/p>\n

Bishkek is expected to host around a dozen international leaders as the SCO commemorates 25 years since its establishment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The organisation currently has 10 member states<\/strong>: Pakistan, China, India, Iran, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Afghanistan and Mongolia hold observer status.<\/p>\n

Following the summit, Pakistan will formally assume the SCO Council of Heads of State chairmanship<\/strong> for the 2026-27 period.
