U.S. President Donald Trump will host Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, for a high-level lunch meeting at the White House today, according to an official statement by the White House press office.
High-Level Lunch Meeting at the White House
The meeting is scheduled for 1:00 PM Washington time (evening in Pakistan) and will take place in the Cabinet Room. Also attending are Pakistan’s ISI Director General Lt. Gen. Asim Malik, the Director General of Military Operations, and Pakistan’s Ambassador to the U.S. Key members of President Trump’s cabinet will be present as well.
This marks the first official interaction between President Trump and a top Pakistani official since Trump assumed office for a second term.
Geopolitical Context and Overseas Outreach
The timing of this meeting is notable, as it comes shortly after Pakistan publicly expressed support for Iran amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel. Analysts expect regional security and bilateral cooperation to be central to the discussion.
Earlier during his U.S. visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir also addressed the Pakistani diaspora in Washington, highlighting the crucial role of overseas Pakistanis in national development. He emphasized the need for ongoing engagement and collaboration to address shared challenges.
