Tragic Murder of Missing Toddler Shocks Rawalpindi

ISLAMABAD: In a deeply disturbing incident, the body of a one-year-old girl who went missing while playing outside her home in Rawalpindi’s Ratta Amral area was recovered from a sewerage line on Thursday.

The child, Maryam, had been playing in Mohalla Qazian when she suddenly disappeared. After frantic efforts by the family failed to locate her, the girl’s grandmother filed a missing report with the local police.

Later, her body was discovered in the main sewer line in Dhoke Ratta. Authorities immediately moved the body to the District Headquarters Hospital for a postmortem examination.

An investigation was launched, leading police to a shocking revelation: the child had allegedly been murdered by a close relative—a boy just 10 and a half years old, who lived in the same house.

Shocking Confession from Minor Accused

The accused, identified as Azan Sultan, was arrested and produced before a local court, which ordered his transfer to the Child Protection Bureau.

During interrogation, the boy admitted to taking the child and submerging her head in the sewer water. When asked about his motive, he chillingly responded, “I didn’t like her,” according to the investigating officer. CCTV footage from the street showed him picking up the girl and walking away, which played a key role in tracing the suspect.

Grief and Family Tragedy

The incident has devastated the family and shaken the local community. Maryam’s father works for the cantonment board, while the accused comes from a broken home. His mother had left due to the father’s drug addiction, and he was being raised under difficult circumstances.

The child’s body was handed over to her parents following the postmortem, as investigations continue into the tragic murder.
