ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman and former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has warned that India’s continued refusal to engage in talks with Pakistan will ultimately damage regional peace and backfire on New Delhi’s own interests.
In an interview with German broadcaster DW Urdu during a visit to Brussels, Bilawal emphasized that comprehensive dialogue is the only way to resolve all outstanding issues between the two countries.
“If India does not come to the table, it will not be in their favour,” he stated plainly.
Water Dispute is a ‘Red Line’
Bilawal issued a stern warning against any Indian attempt to block Pakistan’s water supply, calling it an existential threat to the country.
“Water is our lifeline,” he said. “If India resorts to water aggression, Pakistan will be left with no choice but war.”
He accused India of violating the Indus Waters Treaty and international law, including the United Nations Charter, by issuing veiled threats to disrupt Pakistan’s water resources.
While reaffirming Pakistan’s desire for peace, Bilawal made it clear that national security and water rights are non-negotiable.
Global Diplomacy in Motion
Bilawal is currently leading a high-level delegation in Europe, appointed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif following the recent ceasefire with India.
The delegation’s mandate is to present Pakistan’s perspective on India’s recent aggression and call for international support to ensure lasting peace in South Asia.
He urged world powers to push India toward dialogue to resolve long-standing disputes, including Kashmir, terrorism, and water security.
Despite India’s alleged support for terrorism within Pakistan, Bilawal emphasized that Islamabad has always sought peace rather than military confrontation.
Pakistan plans to send more diplomatic missions globally to raise awareness of India’s violations and Pakistan’s stance on the Indus Waters Treaty.
