ISLAMABAD: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has granted bail to businessman Salman Farooqi and co-accused Awais Hashmi in the high-profile DHA road rage case, following no-objection affidavits filed by the victim and complainant.
Justice Arshad Hussain Khan’s bench approved bail against Rs100,000 surety bonds each, while warning that any misuse of bail privileges could lead to immediate cancellation by the trial court.
Case Background and Judicial Proceedings
The incident occurred weeks ago when the accused allegedly assaulted a motorcyclist and his sister following a minor collision with their Mercedes on Khayaban-i-Ittehad.
A viral social media video of the altercation prompted police to register an FIR under multiple PPC sections including assault, wrongful confinement, and criminal intimidation.
The bail approval came after the sessions court rejected their initial applications, forcing the defendants to approach the SHC for relief.
Conditions and Judicial Observations
The bench noted the accused had no prior criminal records and weren’t required for further investigation after weeks in custody.
Justice Khan emphasized the court’s observations wouldn’t influence the trial court’s final verdict on case merits.
The order specifically empowered the trial court to cancel bail without SHC reference if defendants violate bail terms during proceedings.
Legal experts highlight this as a balanced decision considering the changed circumstances after the victim’s withdrawal of opposition.
