ISLAMABAD: Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez delivered a spectacular performance as Inter Miami triumphed over Montreal with a 4-2 victory in Major League Soccer on Wednesday.
The Argentine and Uruguayan duo combined brilliantly to help Miami climb to sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Messi and Suarez Lead the Charge
Messi opened the scoring in the 27th minute, showcasing his trademark finesse. He later assisted Suarez’s first goal in the 68th minute, giving Miami a commanding 2-0 lead. Suarez wasted no time doubling the advantage by scoring again just three minutes later.
Montreal responded with a goal from Dante Sealy in the 74th minute, but Messi sealed the win with a late goal in the 87th minute. Victor Loturi managed a consolation goal for Montreal in stoppage time, but it was too little, too late.
Miami, which had struggled in recent matches with two losses and two draws, now boasts seven wins and five draws from 15 games. Suarez emphasized the importance of the victory, saying, “We had to take responsibility for the poor results. It’s a matter of correcting to regain confidence.”
Coach Mascherano’s Concerns and League Update
Despite the win, Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano expressed concern over injuries to defenders Gonzalo Lujan, Tomas Aviles, and Jordi Alba, who all had to leave the match. “Unfortunately, the victory is tarnished by their departure,” Mascherano said, noting that medical assessments would follow.
Elsewhere in MLS, Philadelphia Union continued their strong form with a 2-1 win over Toronto, maintaining their position as league leaders. Cincinnati and Nashville, placed just behind Philadelphia, could only manage draws in their latest matches.
Miami’s exciting win, powered by Messi and Suarez, signals renewed momentum for the team as they push for a playoff spot this season.
