Saba Qamar Joins UNICEF to Speak Out Against Child Marriages in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Celebrated Pakistani actress Saba Qamar has taken a bold stand against child marriages by becoming the official brand ambassador for a new UNICEF campaign aimed at ending this harmful practice in Pakistan.

In a powerful and emotional video shared on her Instagram, Saba appeared alongside real-life child and teenage brides, using her voice and influence to shed light on the harsh realities many young girls face due to forced and early marriages.

“Child Marriage is Wrong, Not Marriage”

In the striking campaign video, Saba Qamar can be seen lifting her veil as a symbolic gesture of defiance against outdated and oppressive customs. “Stop! Marriage isn’t wrong—child marriage is,” she declared. “It ruins lives. How can we let that happen?”

Her message struck a chord with viewers, many of whom praised the actress for using her platform to fight for children’s rights. She went on to emphasize that she had joined UNICEF’s mission to protect and empower young girls across the country.

A Call for Change and Awareness

Accompanying her video, Saba shared a heartfelt caption:

“Millions of girls are silenced before they even find their voice. Child marriage too often robs them of their freedom, education, and health. Every girl deserves the chance to learn, grow, dream—and shape her own future. Use your voice. Speak up. Start the conversation. Let’s work together to #EndChildMarriage.”

Pakistan ranks as the sixth highest country in the world for child marriages—an alarming statistic that UNICEF and campaigners like Saba Qamar are working tirelessly to change.

This campaign comes at a time when calls for legislative reform and community education around child protection are growing louder across the country.
