ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has formally requested the Senate chairman to issue a production order for its detained Senator Ijaz Chaudhry to ensure his participation in the crucial federal budget session starting today (Tuesday).
In a letter addressed to the Senate chairman, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Shibli Faraz, emphasized that the matter be treated on a priority basis and that Senator Chaudhry’s constitutional right to attend parliamentary proceedings be upheld.
The letter, a copy of which is available with Dawn, notes that Mr Faraz had previously written multiple times since the beginning of the 2024-2027 Senate term to secure Senator Chaudhry’s attendance.
Although production orders were issued on January 13 and March 7, PTI claims they were not executed due to “frivolous reasons.”
Mr Faraz argued that the continued denial of access to the Upper House proceedings is in violation of Rule 84 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Senate, 2012, which ensures that detained members can take part in official sessions.
