ISLAMABAD: A devastating road accident occurred on Rashid Minhas Road in Karachi on Thursday when a speeding dumper truck overturned onto a 4×4 vehicle, killing a woman and a five-year-old girl instantly.
The vehicle, driven by Khurram Karim, was carrying six family members on their way from Scheme-33 towards Sharea Faisal to receive a relative returning from Haj in Saudi Arabia.
Tragically, the truck laden with gravel fell onto their car near the COD gate, crushing it under the heavy load.
Emergency responders had to use heavy machinery to remove the dumper truck and the gravel to free the trapped passengers.
Khurram, his wife, and his mother escaped without injuries.
However, his daughter Ayesha, aged five, and his sister-in-law Shaheena Mohammed Naeem were killed on the spot.
Another minor girl, Anam, aged three, was seriously injured and rushed to Liaquat National Hospital after initial treatment at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
Family’s Tragic Loss and Medical Response
According to SHO Faisal Gul Khawaja, the accident left the family members trapped inside the crushed vehicle for some time.
The police surgeon reported that both deceased suffered severe crush injuries, primarily to their heads and upper bodies.
Anam, the injured minor, was referred to a specialized hospital for further care due to the severity of her wounds.
Khurram’s family had been travelling to the airport to welcome his brother Kashif Karim, recently returned from performing the Haj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
Driver Flees; Police Register Case
The driver of the dumper truck fled the scene immediately after the accident.
Police have seized the heavy vehicle and registered a First Information Report (FIR) under relevant sections of the
Pakistan Penal Code including grievous hurt and negligent driving.
The FIR was filed on the complaint of Shaheena’s husband, Mohammed Naeem Khan, a senior clerk at DMC West in Orangi Town.
Police are actively investigating the incident and searching for the runaway driver.
