Goodbye Tesla? Huawei’s 5-Minute EV Battery Promises 2,000-Mile Range

ISLAMABAD: In an important development toward the creation of electric cars, Huawei has submitted a game-changing design for a solid-state drives EV battery that may provide up to 2,000 miles of range and charge completely in five minutes, according to foreign media sources.

Battery Revolution Powered by Sulfide Chemistry

The new technology utilizes sulfide-based solid-state chemistry, marking a dramatic departure from current lithium-ion batteries. The result? Two to three times the energy density of today’s standard EV cells.

If commercialized, Huawei’s breakthrough could drastically reduce charging time, eliminate range anxiety, and potentially outpace EV giants like Tesla, BYD, and Lucid Motors.

However, this innovation is still in the theoretical stage, as global EV infrastructure has yet to catch up to such ultra-fast charging capabilities.

China Leads Global Battery Race

Huawei’s announcement underscores China’s aggressive push to dominate next-gen EV battery innovation. The country already holds more than 7,600 solid-state battery patents, with key players like Xiaomi and BYD investing billions in R&D.

The Chinese government’s strategic support for EV and battery tech—combined with Huawei’s latest move—positions China as a global leader in the race for high-performance, fast-charging batteries.

If Huawei’s battery can transition from patent to product, it could reshape the global EV market, reduce carbon emissions faster, and signal a massive challenge to established automakers.
