California: OpenAI is evolving ChatGPT into more than just a chatbot — it’s turning it into a central platform for multiple applications, effectively creating a conversational app marketplace.
This new feature allows users to interact with popular third-party services like Booking.com, Canva, Expedia, and Spotify directly within ChatGPT, without needing to click external links or leave the chat window. For example, you could ask ChatGPT to create a new playlist on Spotify or help you book a hotel using Booking.com — all through a single prompt.
Users can now bring relevant apps into their conversation based on the task they’re working on, making ChatGPT more powerful and task-oriented. This functionality has already rolled out to users, although it’s currently not available in the European Union.
OpenAI also announced plans to onboard more third-party apps in the coming months and provide support to developers to build their own integrations. However, it has not yet clarified how app developers will be able to earn revenue through this ecosystem.
When a new app is used in ChatGPT, users will be asked to grant permission and will be informed about what data is being shared. In some cases, users may also need to connect their existing app accounts.
