Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto arrives in Pakistan for two-day official visit

ISLAMABAD: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Pakistan on Monday for a two-day official visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

At Nur Khan Airbase, President Subianto was warmly welcomed with a ceremonial red-carpet reception. He was greeted by President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, along with cabinet members and senior officials.

As President Subianto stepped out of his plane, a disciplined contingent of the Presidential Bodyguard saluted the visiting dignitary, while two children, dressed in traditional attire, presented him with floral bouquets. A 21-gun salute rang out in the background, and groups of children waved the flags of both Pakistan and Indonesia, creating a colorful and festive atmosphere.

The streets of Islamabad were adorned with national flags and portraits of President Subianto, marking the importance of the visit.

This is President Prabowo’s first visit to Pakistan since assuming office, following the last visit by Indonesian President Joko Widodo in 2018.

During his stay, President Prabowo will hold delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and meet with President Zardari. He is also scheduled to meet Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. Several Memoranda of Understanding are expected to be signed during the visit.

The timing of the visit is significant, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Indonesia.

Discussions during the visit will cover a wide array of topics, including trade, investment, defense cooperation, health, IT, climate change, education, and cultural ties. The visit aims to strengthen collaboration between the two nations at both regional and international levels.
