PM Shehbaz Sharif directs swift privatization of power sector companies

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued directives for reforms in the power sector, stressing the need to expedite the privatization of electricity transmission and generation companies in order to establish a competitive electricity market in the country and provide a sustainable solution to energy issues.

During a meeting, the Prime Minister instructed the initiation of measures under Public-Private Partnership for the Battery Energy Storage System to modernize the electricity grid and align it with contemporary requirements. He also emphasized completing relevant development projects on a priority basis.

The meeting included a briefing on the privatization of FESCO, IESCO, and GEPCO, along with other reforms in the power sector. According to the briefing, Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for privatization will soon be published, which will improve transparency and performance in the power sector.
