President, PM reaffirm Pakistan’s unwavering support for independent Palestinian state

Islamabad : President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday reiterated Pakistan’s consistent support for the Palestinian people in their struggle for self-determination, freedom, and dignity.

In his message, President Zardari said the day serves as a sorrowful reminder of the 1948 events, when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were displaced from their homes, marking the beginning of prolonged suffering and exile.

He added that the Nakba is not merely a historical event but an ongoing humanitarian and political crisis, reflected in continued occupation, forced evictions, land dispossession, and denial of fundamental rights.

The president urged the global community to continue its support for Palestinian refugees and stressed that their right of return, as recognised under UN Resolution 194, remains unfulfilled and must be implemented.

Separately, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong commitment to the establishment of an independent, sovereign, and viable Palestinian state within pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

In a message shared on X, he said that on the 78th anniversary of Nakba, Pakistan stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people and remembers their decades-long displacement and suffering since 1948.

He further called for an immediate end to what he described as oppression, occupation, and violence against Palestinians, reiterating Pakistan’s unwavering support for their cause.
