Islamabad : An Islamabad District and Sessions Court on Monday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi after he failed to appear in a case related to alleged defamatory remarks against state institutions.
The case was heard by Senior Civil Judge Abbas Shah, who took notice of the chief minister’s absence during the proceedings. Following his repeated non-appearance, the court directed law enforcement authorities to arrest Afridi and present him before the court at the next hearing.
The case has been registered by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). Investigators allege that Afridi used digital and social media platforms to publish content considered defamatory toward state institutions.
During the hearing, the court reviewed the progress of the investigation and the accused’s failure to comply with court orders before issuing the non-bailable warrants.
The court instructed the relevant authorities to execute the arrest order and ensure Afridi’s appearance at the next hearing.
Following the proceedings, the case was adjourned until July 9, while the NCCIA continues its investigation under the applicable provisions of PECA.
