Tehran: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held a meeting with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni in Tehran on Monday as part of his official visit aimed at supporting regional peace and stability.
According to Iranian media reports, the meeting was part of Field Marshal Munir’s engagements during his visit to Iran. The discussions focused on regional security, the evolving situation in the Middle East and possible measures to promote peace and stability in the region.
Iranian news agency Fars reported that Field Marshal Munir is expected to hold further meetings with senior Iranian officials during his stay in Tehran. These engagements are expected to provide an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on regional developments and discuss matters of mutual interest.
The visit comes as Pakistan continues to pursue diplomatic efforts aimed at encouraging dialogue and reducing tensions in the region. Field Marshal Munir’s meetings with Iranian officials are expected to focus on strengthening coordination and exploring avenues that could contribute to regional stability.
Earlier, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir had travelled to Iran accompanied by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. The military’s media wing said the visit was part of Pakistan’s broader efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.
“During the visit, the Field Marshal will focus on promoting efforts towards a peaceful, lasting and comprehensive resolution of the conflict in the Middle East,” the ISPR said.
The Pakistani delegation’s visit to Tehran comes amid continued regional tensions, making discussions between the two countries particularly significant. Pakistan and Iran have maintained diplomatic contacts on regional security and other issues of mutual concern.
The meetings in Tehran are expected to further facilitate dialogue between Islamabad and Tehran and provide an opportunity to discuss diplomatic approaches to regional challenges. Further engagements with senior Iranian leadership are expected during Field Marshal Munir’s visit.
