Justice Tariq Jahangiri expresses distrust in IHC CJ Sarfraz Dogar-led bench in degree dispute case

During the hearing of the degree dispute case of Justice Tariq Jahangiri at the Islamabad High Court, he expressed distrust in Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar’s bench and requested the case be transferred to another bench.

The hearing was conducted by a bench comprising Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Azam Khan, with Justice Tariq Jahangiri and a lawyer from the Islamabad Bar Association appearing before the court. Justice Tariq Jahangiri stated in the court that sitting on a bench headed by Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar would constitute a conflict of interest, as the Chief Justice had filed a petition against him.

He informed the court that the swift pace of the case was compromising the fulfillment of justice and requested adequate time to become a party in a case that has been pending for 34 years. During the proceedings, Justice Tariq Jahangiri swore on the Holy Quran that his degree was genuine, and the university had not declared it fake.

In response to this objection, Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar said that he was hearing the case in his capacity as Chief Justice and assured that equal justice would be provided to all parties.

The court summoned the Registrar of Karachi University with the relevant records and instructed Justice Tariq Jahangiri to provide the petition and other pertinent documents. The hearing of the case was adjourned until December 18.
