Bishkek: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Kyrgyzstan on Monday for a three-day official visit focused on further strengthening bilateral relations between Pakistan and the Central Asian country.
The visit is being undertaken at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Nurgozhoevich Zhaparov.
Upon his arrival at Manas International Airport, Prime Minister Shehbaz was welcomed by Kyrgyz Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Adylbek Kasymaliev.
According to the Foreign Office, the prime minister will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State meeting during his stay in Bishkek. He is also expected to hold several bilateral meetings with leaders participating in the summit.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Communications Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar and other senior officials are accompanying the premier.
The Pakistani delegation will participate in the SCO Council of Heads of State session as well as the SCO Plus Summit. During the visit, Pakistan is also scheduled to take over the SCO Council of Heads of State chairmanship for the 2026-27 term.
On the sidelines of the SCO meetings, Prime Minister Shehbaz is expected to engage with leaders from participating countries and discuss regional and bilateral matters of mutual interest.
He will also attend the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games in Bishkek on Monday.
Prime Minister Shehbaz is scheduled to hold formal talks with President Zhaparov on September 2. The discussions will cover a wide range of issues concerning relations between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan.
The two sides are expected to review existing cooperation and explore opportunities for expanding bilateral engagement, particularly in trade, investment, energy, regional connectivity, education and tourism.
The talks will also focus on strengthening contacts between the peoples of the two countries.
The Pakistani and Kyrgyz leadership will exchange views on regional and international developments and consider ways to enhance cooperation through regional and multilateral organisations.
