India and UK Strengthen Counter-Terrorism Ties Post-Ceasefire

ISLAMABAD: Following the recent ceasefire between India and Pakistan, India has engaged with the United Kingdom to enhance counter-terrorism cooperation.

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister S Jaishankar to discuss collaborative efforts to combat terrorism and terror-financing.

Lammy emphasized the fragility of the situation in the region and the importance of continued vigilance against terrorism that threatens regional stability.

Expanding Security Cooperation

The discussions focused on counter-terrorism measures, including law enforcement collaboration, judicial cooperation, and intelligence sharing.

While Lammy did not disclose specific next steps, he reiterated the UK’s commitment to working closely with India to prevent destabilizing terrorist activities.

This visit marks one of the first high-profile engagements from a Western official with both India and Pakistan since the ceasefire was declared in May.

Boosting Economic Ties

In addition to security talks, Lammy highlighted the progress on economic relations between the two nations.

He noted that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to visit India soon to finalize a free trade agreement.

The deal aims to strengthen ties between the world’s fifth and sixth largest economies, expanding opportunities for trade and investment.
