Hafizabad Police Intensify Raids to Arrest Gang-Rape Suspects

ISLAMABAD: Hafizabad police have launched a massive crackdown to arrest eight suspects involved in the horrific gang-rape of a woman in front of her husband.

The incident, which occurred on April 25, has sparked nationwide outrage, with authorities vowing swift justice.

Details of the Heinous Crime

According to the FIR registered at Kasoki Police Station, the victims—a married couple—were traveling on a motorcycle when armed men abducted them near a graveyard.

The assailants subjected the couple to brutal physical assault, gang-raped the woman, and filmed the act to blackmail them.

The suspects also robbed them of cash, gold, and mobile phones before threatening to kill them if they reported the crime.

Police Action and Investigation

Hafizabad District Police Officer (DPO) Atif Nazeer confirmed that raids are underway, with suspects being identified through video evidence.

The victims have undergone medical examinations, and forensic teams are analyzing the footage. DPO Nazeer assured that arrests would be made within 24 to 48 hours.

Despite strict anti-rape laws, including the death penalty, such crimes persist in Pakistan. Earlier this year, Punjab announced plans to expand Special Sexual Offences Investigation Units (SSOIUs) to ensure faster justice. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to strengthen these units and provide better protection for victims.
