Gwadar: The longstanding water crisis in Gwadar has been effectively addressed through coordinated efforts by the Pakistan Army and the district administration. Water supply from the Shadi Kaur Dam pipeline has been restored, while the Gwadar desalination plant has also been partially reactivated.
In recent months, severe drought conditions had caused a significant drop in water availability due to the drying up of the Akra and Swad dams. The situation was further worsened by water theft and the non-functional state of the desalination plant. In response, an emergency meeting was held on September 29, where daily water supply targets were set.
As a result of these measures, 1.2 million gallons of water per day is now being supplied to Gwadar through the Shadi Kaur pipeline. Additionally, water supply via tankers from the Mirani Dam is set to begin shortly. Installation of a new pipeline for the Sunstar wells is also in its final stages.
Experts have attributed the prolonged drought to climate change, emphasizing the urgent need to prevent water wastage and construct new dams to ensure long-term water security.
Residents of the area have expressed their gratitude to the Pakistan Army and local administration for their prompt and effective response to the crisis.
