Tehran : Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has warned the United States against making another strategic miscalculation over the Strait of Hormuz, arguing that intelligence failures have repeatedly contributed to Washington’s errors in dealing with Iran.
In a post on X on Thursday, Araghchi said the US had previously reached wrong conclusions because of inadequate intelligence, pointing to its experience during the war with Iran as an example.
“The US has long miscalculated due to intelligence failures. Case in point: The war on Iran. Now, an even bigger miscalculation on the Strait of Hormuz,” he wrote.
The Iranian foreign minister also cautioned Washington against relying on inaccurate intelligence, saying, “Worse than fake news is fake intelligence. Be careful.”
Concluding his message, Araghchi invoked his faith, writing, “Allah is Great, Greater than ANY power on Earth. In Allah we trust.”
His remarks followed US President Donald Trump’s assertion that Washington had “total control” over the Strait of Hormuz. Trump made the claim on his Truth Social account on Wednesday and added, “I THINK WE WILL KEEP IT,” amid continued tensions following the US-Israeli war with Iran.
Despite Trump’s claim, maritime activity through the strategically important waterway remains at significantly reduced levels. Reuters, citing shipping data, reported that only eight vessels were tracked passing through the Strait of Hormuz, the lowest figure recorded in a week.
The sharp fall in vessel movements reflects the continued caution among commercial shipping operators, who remain concerned about security threats in the region as US military activity in the area increases.
