Karachi Beaches Closed for Public Safety Amid Monsoon Risk

ISLAMABAD: The Karachi administration has imposed Section 144 to temporarily ban public access to multiple beaches, effective from June 6 to June 13, 2025.

This decision follows rising safety concerns linked to dangerously high tides and unpredictable sea conditions during the monsoon season.

The ban affects several popular coastal spots including KANNUP Beach, Sunerah Beach, Mubarak Village, Turtle Beach, and Dua Chowk Beach.

The move was prompted by a formal request from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), citing recent drowning incidents and increased risk due to rough sea waves.

The objective is to prevent further casualties by restricting all recreational activities such as swimming, diving, and beach gatherings during this high-risk period.

Commissioner Warns of Legal Action for Violations

Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi confirmed that the restriction is being implemented strictly to safeguard the public.

He stated that while the measure is temporary, it could be extended if adverse sea conditions continue.

Law enforcement personnel have been directed to take strict action under Section 195(i)(a) and Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against those violating the ban.

Public Urged to Cooperate with Authorities

Authorities are appealing to citizens to comply with the directives and avoid visiting the restricted beaches.

The emphasis is on collaboration and public responsibility, especially during the peak of the monsoon season when coastal safety becomes increasingly difficult to manage.

Officials assure that the measure, though restrictive, is vital for public welfare and is aligned with seasonal safety protocols.
