Field Marshal Munir Discusses Regional Security Dynamics with Azerbaijani Defence Minister

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held a key meeting with Azerbaijani Minister of Defence Colonel General Hasanov Zakir Asgar Oglu in Lachin, Azerbaijan, to discuss regional security issues and deepen defence cooperation between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

The meeting, part of Field Marshal Munir’s accompanying Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on his diplomatic visit, highlighted the strong brotherly relations between the two countries and Pakistan’s firm commitment to expanding defence ties.

Focus on Strengthening Defence Cooperation

According to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement, the discussions revolved around mutual interests and evolving regional security dynamics.

Both sides exchanged views on strategies to enhance bilateral defence cooperation, emphasizing the importance of coordination in addressing shared security challenges.

Field Marshal Munir praised the robust ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, reiterating that Pakistan is dedicated to fostering a stronger defence partnership that benefits both nations.

The meeting also coincided with high-level diplomatic engagements as Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended the Pakistan-Turkiye-Azerbaijan Trilateral Summit in Lachin

. Accompanying him were key officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi.

Bilateral Relations and Future Prospects

During his visit, PM Shehbaz expressed gratitude to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for his country’s steadfast support during the recent military standoff with India.

The premier acknowledged the solidarity shown by Azerbaijan’s leadership and people during this critical time. Both leaders reviewed the full scope of their bilateral ties, noting positive developments across political, economic, defence, and cultural sectors.

Azerbaijan also agreed to organize delegation-level talks soon to advance investment projects in Pakistan, reflecting growing economic cooperation alongside defence collaboration.

The mutual commitment to exchanging delegations and enhancing partnership underlines a promising future for Pakistan-Azerbaijan relations.
