ISLAMABAD:
Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry has called on PTI founder Imran Khan to bring genuine, on-ground political leaders to the forefront of the party.
He criticized the party’s current leadership abroad for failing to guide and support those enduring legal challenges within Pakistan.
Fawad made these remarks while speaking to the media outside the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore.
He pointed out that PTI workers and local leaders have faced the brunt of hardships following the May 9 incidents.
“Those abroad haven’t endured what we have. If they were in our place, they’d have fled, leaving behind even their shoes,” he said.
Fawad emphasized that true leadership must come from those who have stood with the party during adversity.
Urges Support for Iran Amid Tensions
Fawad also addressed growing regional instability, stressing the importance of Pakistan standing firmly with Iran.
He warned that any attempt at regime change in Iran could destabilize the region and be a major loss for Muslim unity.
“Pakistan must support its Iranian brothers in this critical time,” he stated.
Bail Extended in May 9 Cases
In a related development, the ATC Lahore granted Fawad Chaudhry an extension in interim bail for five separate cases linked to the May 9 riots.
Judge Manzar Ali Gill extended the bail until August 8 after the prosecution informed the court that the case files were currently with the Lahore High Court and unavailable for presentation.
