PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui passes away in Islamabad

Islamabad : Senator Irfan Siddiqui, a senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), passed away in Islamabad after a brief illness. He had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital for the past two weeks.

A close confidant of PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, Siddiqui was widely respected as one of the party’s most experienced and influential figures. At the time of his death, he was serving as the Parliamentary Leader of PML-N in the Senate. His demise has left a significant void in Pakistan’s political and intellectual circles.

Siddiqui was elected to the Senate in March 2021 and soon after took on the role of Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs. Known for his thoughtful and balanced opinions, eloquent speeches, and strong commitment to democratic ideals, he earned admiration across party lines.

Apart from his political career, Irfan Siddiqui was a distinguished columnist, educator, and intellectual. His insightful writings and commentary had long contributed to Pakistan’s political dialogue and helped shape public understanding of national issues.

Following his death, political leaders from all sides of the spectrum expressed deep sorrow and condolences to his family, with many praying for his soul’s eternal peace.

Both President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed their condolences, describing the late senator as a man of great principle and intellect.

In their tributes, both leaders highlighted Siddiqui’s contributions to the democratic process in Pakistan. President Zardari extended his sympathy to Siddiqui’s family, recognizing his invaluable role in advancing democracy.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid his respects, calling Irfan Siddiqui a key figure within PML-N and one of Nawaz Sharif’s most loyal and trusted associates. He said Siddiqui’s dedication to the party and his legacy of service would always be remembered with respect and admiration.
